Remembering

25 years ago today, my father went home to be with our Lord and savior. I miss him very much. every time i take a picture i remember my father. I do not not have very many pictures of him because, he was always behind the camera and hardly ever in front of the camera. He loved taking pictures with 35mm and 8mm movies. today i have those pictures he took, and they mean so much to me. I am glad he took those pictures, because they help me to remember the times in my life that mean so much to me. birthdays and vacations and graduations and christmas. without these pictures to remember those times i am afraid I might forget what a great life i had as a child. I think the reason I love photography so much is that now I can create the pictures that will mean so much to my family and to the ones that are not born yet so that they can look back and see how God has blessed our family with so much. even tho we grew up poor we were rich and we have the pictures to prove it. I don’t know who will get my pictures when I am gone, but I hope they will look at them and remember the heritage of family that God has blessed us with.

early this year I lost my Mom and the pictures I have of her mean more to me then all the money in the world. I thank God for my cameras that aloud me to take the many pictures I have of her, especially those of her I took on the days before her death. In the future I will look at those pictures of mama and papa and remember them with love and thank God for the wonderful parents He gave me.

Go out and take pictures of the memories of your life so that those after you will have something to remember you by.

Giving Thanks

The end of the Rainbow

This is the time of year when people give thanks. Don’t forget to give thanks to the creator of light. when God made the the world the first thing he made was light. What would we photograph without light, the word photography means light writing. So the next time your out taking pictures in incredible light, thank God for the day he made and the eyes He gave you to see.

When I took the picture of the rainbow I was the only one there, just minutes before I took this picture there were about ten people there, but then it started to rain and they all cleared out leaving me alone. I was just about to get in my car when I saw the rainbow. I think God made the rainbow just for me.

Thank You Lord for a beautiful world to take pictures of and the vision to see it.

What is The Best Camera ?

I was listing to one of my favorite podcasts the other day (the typical shutterbug podcast) and the host was talking with Chase Jarvis about what is the best camera. I agree with Chase that the best camera is The One You Have With You. I shoot with all kinds of cameras Digital, 35mm, medium format, large format, pin hole. One type of camera is not better or more fun to shoot with they all are fun to shoot with but these are all tools that help me create images that express myself thru photography. Each camera has its own characteristics and produces images with a certain look. The camera I use depends on the type of picture I want to take but if I don’t have it with me then I am not going make any pictures, except maybe the ones in my head. After listening to that podcast I realized that I always have a camera with me, My Cell Phone. I never thought about taking pictures with this camera before, so i thought I might give it a try, so I took a few pictures at work and home. I think they came out looking pretty good, But you be the judge and tell me what you think.

So What is the Best Camera to Use for taking pictures? The one you have with you of course, even if it’s only a cell phone camera.

Panoramas are fun

A shot of the Chicago River

Shooting Panoramas is fun. it gives you a new perspective on the world. One thing that i love about panoramas is the ends of the frame. When I take the picture I concentrate on the center of the frame and tend not to notice whats happening at the far edges of the frame. when I took this picture I was trying to get a shot of the arch of water but when I looked at the negatives I noticed the girl standing on the left. she was standing next to me about five feet away and I did not think she would be in the picture. I think the shot looks better with the girl in it. If I could do anything to change this picture I think I would have tilted the camera up a bit to add a little room above the arch of water.

I love shooting panoramas and using a all manual camera, it slows me down and makes me think about each shot. On a roll 36 exposure 35mm film I get about 21 pictures so I try not to waste film by just point and shooting. I try to think about each shot and try to visualize in my head what the finale print will look like.

My First Photo Post

This is a picture of my nephew David. it was taken in my basement studio using my Nikon D200 and a JTL monolight shot thru a umbrella. This is just one of many I shot that day. I like the pose and the way the side lighting looks. I like shooting portraits in the studio but i have to wait until i get a subject to experiment on, fortunately David come over often.

My First Blog post ever

Hello World, This is the first time blog post for me. I hope to post a picture a day and tell something about how and why it was taken.

First thing i need to do is figure out how to put a picture on here and then comes the hard part, taking a picture every day. there will be no guarantees that I will post every day, in fact i am sure that i will not post every day to start off but as i get the hang of this thing i think that as time goes by i will post more, so hang in there with me. hopefully i will get better at this. i am going to try to find some good books on how to use wordpress and i will be trying out some new themes to see witch ones i like better.
